Touring Modern Tokyo
I began my stay in Japan with a day on my own. I stayed in the Shinjuko area recommended by Bryan as it is next to a major train station with easy access from the airport and all subway lines to get to any area. The modern plaza shown in the photos is where the hotel is located. After the textile workshop, I stayed in same area for 3 days. I was fortunate to have a Japanese designer friend, Kyoko, who worked with me in the USA at a renown design firm in our early careers. She showed me around for 2 days and nights and we packed in as much as humanly possible. We spent 1 day visiting the modern districts of Tokyo including Aoyama, Shibuya, Roppongi and Harajuku. Although I did not buy much, it was so much fun to look at everything from handicrafts to couture fashion. We walked through the teen trendy area of Harajuku since I am a fan of street fashion. It was so cute. We ended the evening with a wonderful dinner at a casual mini-hibachi restaurant.
