Shibori & Other Projects
Without an idle moment, each morning started with a short lecture by Bryan on everything from silk farming, kimono designs, shibori, weaving, the Japanese crafts movement and more. Then day by day we worked on dozens of projects using a variety of techniques utilizing sewing, tying, twisting, folding and more. I know there are unique names for each process but I cannot remember them all now. We also worked on a traditional drawstring bag including making the handmade cords with the interesting wooden device. We also experimented with "eco dying" which is utilizing other natural materials to dye such as seeds, flowers, leaves, vegetables and more. Everyone worked on their projects at their own speed and did more of some and less of others. Personally I did not finish all my projects but had a lot of satisfaction with the ones I did complete.
